Setup And Configuration

    Analyze

    We start by analyzing your requirements and setup your service based on this information. This allows our technicians to configure your server with the best possible performance, security and reliability in mind. The proper planning of your server deployment is important to avoid issues later on and maximize your website’s potential.

    Setup

    We then either setup the sever with your required software to run your websites and applications or compare to your previous server’s software, packages and dependencies to ensure your everything will perform fine on your new server.

    Migrate & Test

    Once we are done properly setting up your service we will begin working on migrating all your sites or applications, change all DNS zones and name servers accordingly, check to ensure your sites are loading properly from a temporary url and then give you the OK to change your DNS to this new server.

    Analyze & Tweak

    When all sites are confirmed to be loading properly from your new server, we will then analyze all traffic and resource usage of your sites and applications to tweak your server’s configurations for best performance.

    Monitor

    Managing your newly setup service is a never-ending task which is why we setup pro-active monitoring of all services, performance, IP reputation and even proper website display alerts. Should an issue arise or we notice an abnormality, our technicians will immediately log in, resolve the issue and notify you.

The key to a well-managed and secure server is the continual update of software from security vulnerabilities and general maintenance to keep it performing optimally. A lot of this ties into the pro-active monitoring that we do to that keeps us informed of the health of your server. Other than continual monitoring of your websites and server’s services, we regularly will update your kernel upon confirmation from you and keep all your packages and software updated daily from security vulnerabilities and bugs.

  • We use our own SolaSecurity software that hardens your server with a suite of software, tools and configurations to keep your server secure.
  • Installation and configuration of a software based firewall. For Linux, CSF is used and Windows Defender is used for Windows Server.
  • Tweak cPanel/Plesk for best security, spam prevention and abusive practices.
  • Installation of LMD + ClamAV (Linux Malware Detect) malware scanner specifically designed for Linux environments and proven 48% more effective than any other antivirus for Linux. Weekly scan results are emailed.
  • Default SSH root user is disabled and unique SSH sudo user is created.
  • Weekly scans from Rootkit Hunter – scanning tool to ensure your system does not have any backdoors or exploits.
  • Weekly scans from CHKRootKit – a simple program that detects hacker software and notifies you via email if anything in the root directories get changed.
  • Unique SSH port is used to prevent port scanning on the default SSH port.
  • Close all ports on your system that are not needed.
  • CPHulk or Fail2Ban is installed that will block someone if they attempt to login to your server incorrectly more than the set limit.
  • Optional: Setup VPN or IP restricted access so only white-listed IPs can access server.

SolaDrive’s advanced real-time monitoring system proactively monitors your server and websites 24/7. It will monitor system services, website availability, latency, 4xx and 5xx website errors and even the reputation of your IP’s. If the monitoring system detects an issue with any of these things a ticket will be created and a technician will immediately begin looking into the issue. In most cases, we may have the issue resolved before you had even known there was one. You can finally sleep easy knowing that our team will be monitoring your server and respond accordingly.

  • 24/7 monitoring of your system and services running on it.
  • Our software automatically tries to fix any failed services or processes by restarting them.
  • All monitored services are checked every 2 minutes and verified from other locations to avoid false-positives.
  • We provide a wealth of knowledge to see site uptime statistics, graphs, logs of affected services and processes, latency checks, site errors and so much more.
  • We analyze trends in alerts such as load alerts or mail queue size and pro-actively patch or optimize your service to prevent a more serious issue from happening.

Is your support US based?

Yes! Our primary facility is based in Buffalo, New York with experienced and certified US technicians.

Will you migrate my sites and applications?

Yes of course! We’ll take care of the entire migration process from the initial planning to final optimizations. Once you have ordered please provide us your previous servers root logins so we can begin the assessment and migration plan to have a successful, problem free, zero-downtime migration.

What is included in the full management of my server?

It’s probably better for us to tell you what we don’t support since there is there is very little. We manage all aspects of your server and service from simple email account creation to complex load balancing clusters, we’re here to help make your life easier. We have very few limitations and really give every request our best effort. The things we don’t support are development or code related issues and administrative assistant tasks such as data entry. Everything else we are more than happy to help with!

Will I be given full root access?

We do not restrict root access to customers. Many managed providers block this as a concern that their customers will mess something up and cause them more work. We don’t think that is fair and we are more than happy to fix an issue regardless of how it was caused.

Do you guys require a control panel to manage my server?

No, you don’t need to use a control panel in order for us to manage your server and websites. However, with so many free control panels available, it can make daily tasks a lot easier to use one. We do limit a max of 10 domains/websites when not using a control panel as it can get complicated and inefficient to not use one.

Do you have an SLA (Service Level Agreement)?

Yes, all servers come with a 100% network uptime SLA and also a 1-hour response time guarantee. Most of the time you will get a response within minutes.
